C.J. Cron, the Angels' top pick (17th overall) in the 2011 Draft, left in the first frame of short-season Orem's 3-2 home victory over Ogden in 11 innings with a knee injury. The cleanup hitter had been on a tear lately with six homers and 17 RBIs in the previous seven games.

Cron later said on Twitter that he had suffered a dislocated kneecap.

Already affected by a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Cron was injured Sunday in the middle of his first at-bat. Normally a first baseman, he has not played the field this season, instead serving as Orem's designated hitter.

With two outs and Jerod Yakubik on third base, Cron hit a foul ball and went down to the ground immediately. According to Ogden broadcaster Brandon Hart, it took seven people to get the 6-foot-4, 235-pound Cron onto a stretcher before he was placed in an ambulance.

The former University of Utah standout was replaced by pinch-hitter Andrew Ray, whose swinging strikeout was credited to Cron.

Cron leads the Pioneer League with 13 homers and 41 RBIs.

The 21-year-old will meet with the team doctor Monday, and Orem's plan of action will be determined based on that examination.

The Owlz scored a run in the bottom of the 11th to end the bittersweet day. Ogden's Matt Shelton (2-1) hit Trevor Hairgrove to open the inning, and Hairgrove advanced on groundouts by Gary Mitchell and Drew Martinez. Brandon Brewer then hit a walk-off single.
